Entwistle School Closed for the Week - May 9th Update

May 9, 2023 (2:00pm) -

Dear Parents & Guardians of Entwistle School,

Out of an abundance of caution, Entwistle School will remain closed for the balance of the week, Wednesday, May 10th to Friday, May 12th. The plan is to reopen the school for Monday, May 15, 2023.

As of lunchtime on Tuesday, ATCO Gas crews were still making their way throughout the Hamlet of Entwistle restoring utility services and gas has not been turned on at the school. Additionally, the prevailing smoke outside presents challenges as our PSD Facilities Services staff do not want to re-engage any air handling units that would circulate the outside air into the school.

PSD is working with the Parkland County Emergency Operations and Alberta Health Services (AHS) as air quality continues to be a concern. Should there be any updates with the always changing weather and wind patterns, we will adjust and communicate with families accordingly.

Furthermore, water quality is also an area of concern. AHS is awaiting lab results after testing the water. We will communicate those to families once they become available.

PSD Transportation Services will maintain the temporary schedule for K-9 students who wish to attend Wabamun School for the balance of this week. High school students’ are back to their regular bus service to Memorial Composite High School.

Morning and afternoon pickup and dropoff times are as follows:

K-9 Entwistle Students

Location AM Pickup departure to Wabamun PM drop-off
Seba Beach Library 7:40 AM 3:10 PM
Gainford 7:45 AM 3:10 PM

High School Students regular bus service

Staff are eager to reconnect with students but we understand that not all families may be ready to return to school for various reasons. Additional support will be available for students.

As per Administrative Procedure 750: Severe Weather, primary considerations for school closure include air quality, specifically an AQHI greater than 4.

Once again, for the latest on the fire, please refer to Parkland County’s website at:

Please reach out to Principal Bileau Christine.Bileau@psd.ca or to our Division Office at DivisionOffice@psd.ca or 780-963-4010 if there is any assistance we can provide at this time.
